Patrick Nutter

Pat Nutter is a lifelong Calvert County resident and has enjoyed a long career in public service. He was a Commissioner for Calvert County from 2010 to 2018. He served as a member of the Chesapeake Beach police force in the 1960s and 1970s, after which he became a deputy with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.

From 1977 through 1998, he filled a number of roles, including criminal investigator and lieutenant. His training in hostage negotiation, crisis management, and defensive tactics provided him with the pivotal skills required to ensure safety and security in the communities he served. He was among the first group of individuals to attend the Municipal Police Academy and maintains membership in the Fraternal Order of Police.

Following retirement from the Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Nutter became Calvert County’s first Chief Zoning and Code Enforcement Officer in the Department of Planning & Zoning and held this position for five years. He has been an active supporter of many charitable athletic and educational organizations and activities throughout his lifetime.

Pat is an avid musician and plays the guitar, upright bass, and mandolin. He has also been an accomplished magician, martial arts instructor, and member of the Kiwanis Club.

He has three children and nine grandchildren and resides in Owings with his wife.
